National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has reported a consolidated profit after taxation of approximately Rs45.1 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, reflecting the bank’s continued profitability amid changing interest rate conditions and developments in Pakistan’s banking sector.
According to the unaudited financial results submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday, the bank’s consolidated profit before taxation stood at approximately Rs103.7 billion, while earnings per share reached Rs22.83.
The financial statements were approved by the bank’s Board of Directors at a meeting held on October 28, 2026.
Interest Income Remains A Major Earnings Contributor
The bank’s consolidated financial statements showed that mark-up and interest earned during the nine-month period amounted to approximately Rs562.7 billion, compared with Rs601.3 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.
The decline reflects a reduction in gross interest earnings during the period.
However, the bank also recorded lower mark-up and interest expenses, helping moderate the impact of declining interest income on its overall financial performance.
Net mark-up and interest income remained a substantial contributor to the bank’s operating revenues.
Non-Interest Income Supports Revenue Generation
Alongside its core lending and investment operations, NBP continued to generate income through fees and commissions, foreign exchange activities, dividend income and other banking services.
The bank’s diversified revenue streams provided additional support to its financial performance during the nine-month period.
The consolidated results also reflected operating expenses, provisions and taxation charges, which influenced the bank’s final profitability.
Profitability And Earnings Per Share
On a consolidated basis, NBP reported profit before taxation of approximately Rs103.7 billion during the nine months ended September 30, 2026.
After accounting for taxation, consolidated profit stood at approximately Rs45.1 billion.
The bank reported consolidated earnings per share of Rs22.83, compared with Rs30.88 in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The reduction in earnings per share indicates that profitability remained under pressure compared with the previous year, despite the bank maintaining substantial earnings.
Balance Sheet Reflects Large Banking Operations
According to the consolidated statement of financial position, NBP’s total assets stood at approximately Rs7.77 trillion as of September 30, 2026.
The bank continued to maintain a substantial portfolio of investments, advances, cash balances and other banking assets.
Its liabilities primarily comprised customer deposits, borrowings and other financial obligations associated with its banking operations.
The financial statements also reflected the bank’s capital, reserves and accumulated earnings, highlighting the scale of its operations within Pakistan’s financial system.
Standalone Results Show Continued Profitability
Separately, NBP’s unconsolidated financial statements showed profit after taxation of approximately Rs16.9 billion for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026.
For the nine-month period, standalone earnings per share stood at Rs22.90, compared with Rs31.32 in the corresponding period of 2025.
The standalone financial results provide a view of the bank’s core operations, excluding the full consolidation of subsidiaries and associated entities.
Outlook For Pakistan’s Banking Sector
NBP’s latest financial results come as Pakistan’s banking sector continues to adjust to changes in monetary policy, interest rates and broader economic conditions.
Banks have faced changing income dynamics as interest rates have moved away from their earlier elevated levels, affecting returns on advances, government securities and other interest-bearing assets.
For major commercial banks such as NBP, maintaining profitability increasingly depends on balancing interest income with funding costs, managing operating expenses and expanding non-interest revenue streams.
The bank’s extensive deposit base, investment portfolio and nationwide banking operations remain central to its financial position.
Going forward, movements in interest rates, credit demand, deposit mobilisation and asset quality will remain important factors influencing NBP’s financial performance.
The financial results represent the bank’s unaudited performance for the nine months ended September 30, 2026.
