Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is currently negotiating with its local partner, Mega Motor Company, to bring its advanced ultra-fast charging technology to Pakistan. The discussions run parallel to the automaker’s preparations to open its first vehicle assembly plant in the country, which is slated to begin operations in the second half of 2026.

BYD Vice President and General Manager of Asia Pacific Auto Sales, Liu Xueliang, stated that the company is evaluating the rollout of its Mega Flash Charging system for the Pakistani market. This next-generation technology, powered by BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, is engineered to drastically reduce charging times for newer electric vehicles. While the upcoming system is optimized for vehicles built on the latest battery platforms, existing BYD models will still be able to utilize the infrastructure at their respective maximum charging speeds. However, the actual deployment of this ultra-fast network remains contingent upon the readiness of local infrastructure, consultations with relevant stakeholders, and future product planning.

Alongside its charging network ambitions, BYD’s local vehicle manufacturing project is nearing its final implementation stages. The Pakistani facility will mark BYD’s sixth manufacturing plant located outside of China. Production is expected to launch with an initial annual capacity of 25,000 vehicles, with built-in scalability to double that output to 50,000 units as market demand increases.

The new assembly plant is positioned to significantly impact both the local economy and the environment. The project is anticipated to create more than 1,100 direct jobs, bolstering the development of Pakistan’s broader electric vehicle supply chain. Furthermore, by accelerating the adoption of new energy vehicles, the facility is projected to help the country avoid approximately 165,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by 2034. Additional details regarding the plant’s operations and the specific vehicle models slated for local assembly will be disclosed as the launch date approaches.
