Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited (PSX: MLCF) recorded a 54.19% year-on-year surge in consolidated net profitability, closing the three months ended September 30, 2026, with a final profit of Rs4.21 billion. This robust bottom-line growth, up from Rs2.73 billion in the corresponding quarter last year, was engineered by explosive topline expansion that effectively neutralized severe macroeconomic headwinds and heavy institutional taxation.

The construction materials manufacturer posted net revenue from contracts with customers of Rs30.92 billion, marking a massive 87.57% jump from the Rs16.48 billion generated in 1QFY26. Crucially, the cost of sales escalated at a significantly slower pace of 72.01%, settling at Rs18.73 billion. This volume and pricing leverage lifted gross profit more than two-fold to Rs12.18 billion, compared to Rs5.59 billion during the same period last year.

“A more than six-fold jump in finance cost, a steep share of loss from an associated company and a doubled tax charge partly offset the gains.”

Operating overhead exhibited mixed trajectories during the quarter. Selling and distribution expenses were tightly controlled, edging up a mere 3.60% to Rs802.15 million. In contrast, administrative expenses spiked 82.91% to Rs1.07 billion.

The company also booked a net impairment loss on “financial assets” of Rs161.00 million, representing an increase of 78.89%, while other expenses more than doubled to Rs551.42 million. Despite other income falling 28.87% to Rs353.96 million, the sheer weight of the expanding gross margins drove the core operating profit up by 125.81% to Rs9.95 billion.

Below the operating line, the corporate entity absorbed heavy financial damage. Total finance costs surged more than six-fold, skyrocketing to Rs2.47 billion from Rs396.71 million last year, a figure heavily impacted by “Islamic finance services” obligations. Consequently, the net finance cost jumped more than seven-fold to Rs2.39 billion. Furthermore, Maple Leaf recorded a severe share of loss in an associated company, hemorrhaging Rs683.13 million against a negligible Rs3.09 million loss last year.

Despite the massive debt-servicing drag, profit before income tax grew 69.21% to Rs6.85 billion. The company ultimately absorbed a doubled income tax charge of Rs2.65 billion, heavily tempering the final bottom-line growth. Basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) closed the quarter at Rs3.54, up 36.15% from the Rs2.60 recorded in the corresponding period last year.
